My hobbies and interests

Getting involved in hobbies and interests such as playing sport, music or helping to run a club enables you to develop a variety of skills including team working while demonstrating your commitment and motivation which are essential to being successful in any working environment.

So here you’ll get to develop skills, learning both how to be an effective team member and how to step up and take the lead when required. You’ll learn how good leaders motivate, enthuse, inspire and build respect with their teams.

You’ll discover that the key to teamwork is all about being able to operate smoothly and efficiently in a group. Along the way, you’ll also grow in confidence and as a person.

Activity ideas

Get inspired by developing your hobbies and interests through a whole range of activities including sport, exercise, music, film, drama, dance, photography arts and crafts, cooking, design technology, debating societies history, language, science, computing, STEM clubs.

You can also explore opportunities offered by Duke of Edinburgh, Cadets, Scouts and Guides, Young Bristol, Creative Youth Network, BBC Get Inspired and on the Learn to Lead programme.

How to enter

To enter the Embark award simply complete 18 STAR activity records in total. 6 of these must be in the ‘My courses and careers’ category. You then need to write one reflective statement. Explore other categories and find out more about how to enter.
